The good man

Image
Γεια σου, Δ.Α.! So, I was talking with a friend of mine today and somehow she ended up telling me about a friend of hers that I should meet. This friend of hers (she told me) is very religious and that is why I should meet her. To be honest, I run away from very religious people... Crazy! I know! Considering I am very religious myself! I just don't like very religious people. Well, I'm not being fair here. I do admire and wish to be like people who are very religious BUT who are also very reason oriented. That is, I don't like people that "blindly follow religion". I treat them with reverence and charity, but I don't feel comfortable with them. It's quite the dichotomy... I myself am very religious... You know that... But I am also a person of Science and Engineering ( I was born for this ). Reason has a huge role to play the way I lead my life. But so does faith. For me, as a scientist and a believer, Faith and reason are like two wings on which the...

Prayer's efficacy

Image
Γεια σου, Δ.Α.! In today's world, in essence pragmatic and dominated by technology, we are are accustomed to the immediate answers to our requests (e.g. when we search something on Google, on our mobile phones, we get a reply in less than a second!). 15 years ago that was something inconceivable in terms of speed, and now we get annoyed when we have to wait (e.g. Why isn't my text being sent right now!). In a world like this, it is not uncommon for me to find the real sense of prayer. Or at least, to question if my prayers are really effective. Really, most of our life has been automated to the point where we interact with many things by just pressing some button and we're served instantaneously (e.g. microwave oven, elevator, thermostat, etc.). I have to admit that, in the case of prayer, I also have been tempted to expect the same thing. In occasions, I've seen that even if I prayed, I don't get to see any change (sometimes I do). And in concrete, wheneve...

Happy Easter! (2017 Edition)

Καλό Πάσχα, Δ.Α.! Χριστός Ανέστη! The crucified has risen! [Disclaimer: This post is going to roam around my religious believes. So... You might not like it very much. Nevertheless, it is incredible how today's Easter Vigil mass's homily was a direct continuation of my previous 3 posts. I am writing this post so that one day it may become a reminder for me of what I am called to live.] What does Christ's resurrection provides us with? What does faith in the resurrection provides us with? What is the whole deal with it? Well, before there is resurrection, there was the cross... I believe that the first victory of Christianity is Christ's cross. For us, Christians, Christ took to the cross of all of our miseries, pains, sufferance, and death. And at the same time, all of our miseries, pains, sufferance do not stop Him from loving us, from loving us until the end, from loving us until love's extreme. In not few occasions, I've experienced that my pains, m...

Meine Leibe

Γεια σου, Δ.Α.! Do I want to love the same way El Señor  Jesus loved? Normally, it is a question that I would answer yes. But it is always wise to know first what that means before deciding to do it. I guess, it is a little bit like marriage? El Señor  Jesus, having loved His own people, he loved them until the end. You've heard that, right? But what does that mean? I have some ideas of what that might mean... Let's start by answering who is 'his own people' ? As a first guess, we could it say 'It's his friends!', sure. However, on John 1, 11 , we can see that ' his people ' did not accept Him. Nevertheless,  El Señor Jesus came to the world for them. But He also came for those who accepted Him. With this, we can basically say that ' having loved his own people ' would mean basically everybody. Those who accept Him, as well as those who don't accept Him. Those who ignore Him, as well as those who search for Him. Those who thirs...

Thirst

Γεια σου, Δ.Α.! Ελπίζω να είστε καλά και ευτυχισμένη όπου κι αν βρίσκεσαι. To be honest, I've been pretty busy with research and work and I think it was a good thing since it helped me get take my mind off thoughts that didn't help me grow as a person and get my act together after last month's episode. On the plus side! I am getting closer and closer to finish this PhD! :) Thirst for Love. Let's talk about that today. Sure, when we talk about thirst, the first thing that comes to our minds is the one that is quenched with water. And, in all fairness, there is a thirst that comes from the body. Say, for example, if my body needs something to drink, I get some water and I quench it. We need water to live. It is hard to keep moving forward if I don't quench this thirst. But there is more. There is a thirst that comes from the heart. This thirst is a thirst to love and to be loved in return. A thirst to know love and to experience love. And when this thirst ...
