Prayer
In today's Gospel The Lord Jesus teaches us the importance of prayer for him, "stealing hours a day" to spend time at the intimate dialogue with the Father. The frequent prayer and intimate dialogue with the Father is seen as a priority for Him. It is from His deep harmony with the Father, which requires and thrives on the ongoing dialogue with Him, that the Lord is able to order with rectitude His activities according to the divine plan. By praying early in the morning the Lord teaches us that with prayer He is preserved from the wear and breaking-down that comes with activity, that without prayer and without a continual reference to the Father it becomes dangerous activism. The Lord teaches us that the righteous action is nourished by prayer as its root, and makes of that same action that is oriented to the fulfillment of the divine Plan an incessant prayer, a continuous praise or "liturgy".
He/She who’s truly is a disciple of Christ, never ceases to pray because he/she obeys the example and the voice of his/her Master, who said, we must "always pray and not lose heart". Prayer is a necessity for the believer, a necessity that responds to a thirst for God that seeks to be satisfied in the encounter with Him. It consists in a harmonious fabric that is woven from strong moments of prayer and continual prayer. The strong moments of prayer like in the intimate dialogue with the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, the meditation on His Word with a spirit of prayer, the attentive participation in the Holy Eucharist, in the celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours, nourish the continual prayer, prayer that is to live in constant presence of God and doing everything for Him. He/She who looks to obey God in all things and makes all his/her activities a ceaseless praise to Him will not cease to pray.
If the Lord Jesus took the time to pray (not leaving prayer for "the end of the day" as we so often tend do) but praying before beginning His demanding and daily activities, how much more should we find the time to have strong moments of prayer throughout the day! If we walk in search of reconciliation for ourselves -the forgiveness of our sins, the healing our deepest wounds, harmony and inner peace, happiness and continuous joy, the strength to fight, etc.- and if we want to take others the gift of reconciliation, we must understand once and for all that this is impossible without a perseverant prayer life. To be reconciled and to cooperate with the Lord Jesus in the task of the reconciling evangelization of humanity, the intimate, daily and perseverant prayer is essential. Organize yourself, especially the days when you have more things to do, so that you never miss a time to pray. And if you have to get up "very early" to pray before the start of the relentless pace of activities, make that sacrifice, which will be amply rewarded by the Lord!
